Your guide to choosing the right eyeshadow
Because your eyes deserve to shine 💫 Eyeshadow can completely transform your look—from a subtle wash of colour to full-on drama. But with so many shades and finishes out there, how do you know which ones are right for you? Don’t worry—we’ve got you (and your lids) covered. 1. Start with Your Eye Colour The easiest way to pick flattering shades? Look at your natural eye colour and go for contrast. Blue eyes: Warm tones like bronze, copper, and peach really make your eyes pop. Green eyes: Try plum, mauve, or warm browns to bring out the green. Brown eyes: Lucky you—almost any colour works! Golds, teals, purples, and deep greens all add something special. Hazel eyes: Play up the gold or green tones depending on your mood—warm browns and purples are perfect. 2. Think About Your Skin Tone Certain shades can either brighten your look or make things feel flat. Here's a quick cheat sheet: Fair skin: Soft pinks, taupes, and rose golds look beautiful. Medium/olive skin: Warm tones like bronze, copper, and terracotta shine here. Deep skin: Bold jewel tones, rich browns, and metallics like gold or emerald look stunning. 3. Matte or Shimmer? Or Both? Different finishes do different things. Here’s how to mix it up: Matte: Great for contouring the eyes and creating depth. Perfect for everyday looks or building a smoky eye. Shimmer/metallic: Adds light and dimension. Use on the lid or inner corner to make eyes look bigger and brighter. Satin: Somewhere in between, these give a soft glow without going full glitter. Pro tip: Combine matte and shimmer in one look for depth and dimension. 4. Match the Mood Think about when and where you’ll be wearing it. Everyday/work: Stick to neutral tones like beige, brown, and soft peach. Date night: Smoky greys, rich plums, or sultry bronze = yes please. Party mode: Go bold with glitter, colour, or dramatic metallics. It’s your moment! 5. Trust What You Love Honestly? The best eyeshadow is the one that makes you feel confident. If you love wearing icy blue or neon green, go for it. Beauty is all about expression—and rules were made to be broken.
Learn moreLipstick for different skin tones
Have you ever bought a lipstick hat you loved on somebody else and wondered why it didn’t look the same on you? Well, it turns out that different shades of lipstick can present differently depending on our skin tones. Luckily, determining the best lipstick shades for different skin tones is a pretty simple task once you understand what causes certain lipstick shades to look better on some skin tones than others. Before jumping into things, remember that anybody can wear whatever they please and you shouldn’t let this stop you from rocking that new lipstick you’ve been eager to try! This is just a basic guide to help you determine which shades may look best on you. Why does lipstick look different on different skin tones? The reason why lipsticks appear differently on people is because we all have unique skin tones and therefore certain colours will complement our personal skin tone more than others. The chemistry of lipstick in terms of which mix of pigments they contain will either complement or contrast with your skin tone based on how fair or deep you are and whether you have cool, warm or neutral undertones. This doesn’t mean that certain colours are off limits, it just means that the coral coloured lipstick that you thought popped on your friend might not have the same effect on you that a berry red colour would. How do I match my skin tone with lipstick? You may have seen “lipstick colour theory” videos going viral on TikTok and thought “What on Earth does that mean?” but it’s really not as complicated as it sounds. The best way to match lipstick for different skin tones and more specifically, your unique skin tone, is to first identify your undertones. If your veins appear more blue or you find silver jewellery complements you more than gold jewellery, you likely have cool undertones. If your veins appear more green or you find gold jewellery complements you more than silver jewellery, you probably have warm undertones. If you fall in between these two options, you likely have neutral undertones. Now to put this in action, let’s say you have cool undertones and are looking for the perfect shade of red lipstick. Looking at the colour wheel, blue (being a cool colour) opposes orange (a warm colour), so your skin tone would be better suited to a blue-based red rather than an orange-based red.
